I know life in academia—whether you are a graduate student, professor, or researcher—can be hectic. You can spend months, if not years, pouring all your time, attention, and energy into your work. That kind of focus can be electric. It helps you contribute your unique insight to society's larger body of knowledge. But it can also be draining, leaving you struggling to complete the final touches.
Your paper is a major labor of love and you're almost to the finish line, but the last mile is daunting and there's already so much competing for your time and brain power. I will ease the stress of completing that last mile so you can cross the finish line celebrating with pride instead of ending in exhaustion.
I earned my degree in editing and technical writing and, after a short career detour, found my way back to editing through my previous work at a university writing center. I started freelance editing in 2016, copyediting an ESL dissertation as my first client project. Since then, I've worked with and had academics in my inner circle. As someone who is academia-adjacent, I see how tiresome it can be to put the finishing touches on a major paper.
I enjoy helping with those finishing touches because I'm detail-oriented to an extent that is a little hard to get across in words. Some people would say they're good, or even great, with details. Well, me, I marinate in them.
Even outside of work, two of my personal hobbies are cross-stitch and cataloging books. Some would call those tedious—and I would even agree!—but I thrive in the tedium. It's also what I love about and what makes me so good at editing.
I know many people would say just the opposite—that they hate editing. That's also part of why I like doing it. I get a lot of satisfaction out of doing something I truly enjoy and taking a person's least favorite part of the writing process off their plate to ease their stress and help their project really shine.
